(This painting can be paired with Ways of Life 2.) Layering shapes and then designing a painting was a bit of a backwards approach for me. I have shapes I enjoy working with and in this case the whole surface is filled with figures, fishhouses, fish and birds. I then began to cover over certain areas with warm white to establish an overall composition of shapes. I had no idea of how it would turn out but kept covering and adjusting til I was happy with this casual interconnected environment.
