The inconsistency of the angles, sizes, heights and textures of a group of ocean pilings is an interesting image for me to work with. I have used a base of scrap fabric to build the underlying design and added paint to create a sense of place and age. I have played with tones of weatherworn grays and introduced the warmth of rusty reds to bring a contrast to the grays. Tide after tide, storm after storm these still stand ready. The abstract elements will be of great interest to me this year.
